Visiting the Arab Nations

See the beauty of Egypt and Jordan

Sometimes, it takes one man’s desperate and drastic choice to spark an awakening. Ever since a man burned himself in protest of the oppression of the Tunisian government in December 2010, various revolutions have erupted across the Middle East. These pro-democracy movements are known collectively as the Arab Spring.

Because of this revolutionary wave, Middle Eastern are constantly in the news headlines. Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, Bahrain, Syria, Yemen, Algeria, Jordan, Morocco and so on – the eyes of the world are glued to the brave men and women who are fighting for change in these Arab nations. What many people do not realize is that there is more about these Arab nations than just government oppression and public uprisings. Underneath all the political tensions lie beauty that is found in each country’s people, history and culture.

The Arab Republic of Egypt and the Kingdom of Jordan are only of the Middle Eastern countries that still remain to be in the bucket list of globetrotters, and with very good reason. Egypt trips, for instance, attract thousands of people from all over the world. The fact that this it is in this Arab nation where ancient civilization dawned and Biblical events occurred are a major selling point to travelers. However tumultuous the current state of the republic is, it never ceases to be known as the land of the temples of ancient Pharaohs, the great pyramids, the majestic Sphinx and, of course, the Nile River.

The Kingdom of Jordan is another Middle Eastern country that has solid ancient foundations. However, 21st century travelers find Jordan tours appealing because it brings the old and the new together. Not many people know that Jordan is a modern country. The fact that one of the country’s top monarchs, Queen Rania, personally updates her Twitter account shows that the kingdom utilizes modern tools to adapt to the demands of this generation while encouraging her citizens to uphold traditional values. Because most Jordanians speak English, getting around can be quite easy. Aside from English and Arabic, French and German are also spoken in certain areas.

Perhaps, the most popular Jordan destination is Petra, a UNESCO-recognized World Heritage Site since 1985. There are a lot of ancient structures in Petra that have survived the elements of nature to this day. One of them is known as The Monastery, a large carved monument in Petra that is said to date back as far as 1 A.D. Others include the Royal Tombs, the 7000-seat Roman Theater, the Treasury and the winding sandstone canyon known as the Siq.

One does not need to wait until all the Arab nations are liberated to find that each of them has so much to offer. Their majesty and beauty transcend the innumerable tests of time.
