The latest study confirms that giving birth is expensive. According to research in the United States, the average cost of delivering one baby is $21,000 and giving birth to twins has a hefty price tag of $105,000. Giving birth to multiples can cost new moms and dads upwards of $400,000. Researchers were attempting to discover the financial difference between single births and multiple births, because multiple births are on the rise.
In the United States and worldwide, the use of assisted reproductive technologies, such as in vitro fertilization (IVF) is also more common today, and these methods are linked to an increased chance of giving birth to twins, triplets, or other sets of multiples. The medical costs in the study included treatment for mothers and babies during pregnancy, birth, and during the first year of a baby’s life.
It seems a bit ridiculous that giving birth can cost so much money in today’s society, but evidently, all that technology and medical knowledge is paying off. Years ago, women used to have babies for free at home, but both the survival rates of moms and babies were much lower than in present times.
