Last Minute Flight Deals? Gone With The Wind

assange 2011Airfare is not cheap – especially when it comes to the holidays. One airfare expert says it is because airlines have scaled down their planes to the point of filling every seat on every flight, so last-minute flight deals are a thing of the past. Where once airlines offered a last-minute deal to fill empty seats, even during the busiest holiday seasons of Thanksgiving and Christmas, they no longer have a need to do that. For American travelers, that means higher flight costs to get home for the holidays.

With holiday travel up only 1.5 percent from 2012, that still means an extra 31,000 travelers each day during Thanksgiving and Christmas peak travel days. The good news is, if you are willing to plan ahead as far as you can, and travel on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, you may be able to snag an affordable price for your flight this holiday season.

Where once we were able to get last-minute deals, now it seems Americans are at the mercy of the airlines. When we want to visit our family and friends, we have to pay for the flight as well as fees for checking our bags on most airlines. This is not good news for our struggling economy.
