If you have been able to recover from your laughing fit after reading the above headline, then run — probably best for where you’re going — to the nearest doughnut shop: it’s National Doughnut Day 2014! I’m not shilling for doughnut chains, oh no, my friends, not at all. Quite the opposite — go grab as many free doughnuts as they’ll let you stuff into your doughnut-less mouth!
This isn’t all deep-fried sales promotions: National Doughnut Day was created to honor the “donut lassies;” a group of Salvation Army workers who delivered doughnuts to troops during World War I. How did such a special occasion turn so commercial … never mind, I think it’s easy to make the connection.
National Doughnut Day 2014 Giveaways and Freebies
Thinking about joining in on the fun for this proud day in our nation? Here are some spots that might make your cream-filled dreams come true.
Stop by and grab a drink; they’ll give you a doughnut of your choice in return. Supplies are limited, so get there early, and visit their website to make sure you’re near a participating location.
It’s the “Krazy Krispy’s Kreme Dealership,” where every thing must go! Krispy Kreme is giving them out all over the U.S. and Canada (sorry Connecticut and Puerto Rico), so join the queue and save the cash for next time.
An in-store purchase = a free doughnut. They doughnut fool around! Haha — you’re welcome! They say laughter burns calories, so there’s my gift to you. (Not sure who “they” are, or if such conclusions have been drawn, but it sounded official.)
If you stop by one of the recently-renovated Cumberland Farms, you’ll snag a free doughnut when you purchase a beverage. Check out Cumberland Farm’s Find-a-Store here.
Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana and Mississippi, you get a What? Winn Dixie stores are offering each customer one, free “jumbo doughnut hole” today only. You can enjoy cake, powdered and cinnamon flavors while supplies last.
If you’re on the sweets aisle, or near the bakery, of nearly all national supermarkets, Entenmann’s Bakery is there. This limits their ability to give you a freebie like the other stores on National Doughnut Day 2014, but they are going 364 better. Visit them on the contest’s Facebook page for a chance to win free doughnuts for a year (as well as other awesome prizes). You have until 11:59: p.m. ET on June 30, 2014 to enter for the random-selection drawing. And for all of you law abiding contestants, check out their rules here.
By the way, and this is super #Good, Entenmann’s Bakery will donate $1 per “like” on its Facebook page to the Salvation Army (remember the “donut lassies”). You have until June 30 to help the bakery get to their top goal of $30,000. This amount, combined with similar donations in recent years, will get them to $100,000 in total Salvation Army support.
