Spring season is here, and there’s no better way to celebrate than spending time under the sunshine and in your garden. There are lots of great plants and produce to add to your garden, from fruits and veggies to vines and kitchen herbs. Here are three reasons why you should add sunflowers and how they enhance your garden.

They Attract Bees

Bees are essential to a thriving garden. They pollinate plants, helping them reproduce seeds for dispersal and propagation. More bees mean more plants in the future. Planting sunflowers in your garden attracts bees to your yard. They produce large amounts of pollen and nectar, and their bright yellow petals grab your attention. Adding sunflowers to your garden increases your bee population and enhances your plants’ reproduction.

Their Seeds Are Edible

Creating an edible garden allows you to live a greener life and provides many other benefits. It allows you to relish the joys of producing something useful and enhances your dishes with fresh ingredients. Planting sunflowers further makes your garden edible. Their seeds contain high amounts of protein and rich, healthy fats. Roasting sunflower seeds gives you a tasty, nutritious snack and a crunchy salad garnish.

They Create Shade

Sunshine is essential for plants to grow. However, too much of it leads to opposite results. As their name suggests, sunflowers love the sun and the warmth it emits. They grow tall and bend to face the sun. As they reach for sunlight, sunflowers create shade. They protect smaller plants from overheating and keep the soil from drying out. This sun protection benefits their neighbors and allows your garden to thrive even on the hottest days.

They Bring Good Vibes

Sunflowers emanate good vibes, making your gardens a more appealing and comfortable space to enjoy. Their yellow petals mirror sunshine, brightening your day, and their soft and subtle scent appeases your senses. Sunflowers are also among the few flowers that represent healing. Adding sunflowers to your garden transforms your yard into a safe, comfortable, and positive space to enjoy.

There are many reasons why you should plant sunflowers in your garden. They attract bees, provide edible seeds, shade smaller plants, and bring on the good vibes. Enhance your garden with sunflowers and make the most of springtime.

When I was young, during summer break my mom would drag me out of bed and get me to help her with gardening. I remember how much I used to detest it. All that back-breaking work in the sweltering heat, plus the sweat, the dirt and grime… It was all a little too disdainful for me. I was a spoiled brat who hated getting my hands into the soil. And if my finger so much as touched a teeny tiny part of any creepy crawly, I would jump and scream. I often wondered why in the world people love gardening so much.

Now that I’m older everything has taken a complete 180° turn. I have fallen in love with gardening, and I feel grateful for everything my mom taught me about it. There are so many benefits of gardening, that it should be part of every homeowner’s life. Whether you live in a house with a big yard, or an apartment building with very little space, gardening will help you in so many ways.

A continuous supply of fresh fruits and vegetables

When you have your own vegetable garden, you get to enjoy a continuous supply of fresh fruits and vegetables all year round. There is no need to buy at a local store because you can just harvest straight from your own backyard. Because of this, you get to save a lot of money. Also, you have complete confidence that you are eating clean, fresh and organic food, without the harmful pesticides that usually come with the store-bought kind. And there is simply nothing more delicious and enjoyable than food grown with your own bare hands.

The best decoration you can add to your home is a flourishing garden. The lush, deep green of the leaves and shrubs, the magnificent colors of the blooming flowers, the sweet blend of fragrance that fills the air… all this makes a home a cozy, magical place to live in. Even if you live in a small apartment without any space to grow a garden, you can still fill it with plants and flowers, and believe me, it makes a huge difference in giving life and love to your home.

Ecological harmony

One of the important benefits of gardening is that it provides a natural habitat for bees and butterflies, for caterpillars and ladybugs, and the many insects and creeping things that typically thrive in nature, thus promoting ecological balance and harmony. Plants and animals coexisting together in a little piece of paradise. If we can get more people to grow a garden in their own backyards, then our collective effort will greatly benefit our environment.

Bonding with family

Having a garden gives the opportunity to bond with family and friends. Life is so hectic, so fast-paced, that we usually forget to spend more time with people we love. But having a garden gives us the chance to set aside everything else, and just be together. Gardening with family is so much fun. Especially if you have kids, you can teach them the basics of gardening and have fun doing it. You can let them harvest fruits and vegetables, and instill in them the love of gardening at a very young age. You can hold brunches in your garden, or summer parties and get-togethers, allowing you quality time with your loved ones.

Gardening heals

One of the best benefits of gardening is that it promotes healing, both externally and internally. Gardening allows you to move your body and be active, which is great for your physical health. It allows you to be exposed to the sun, which is also very important to our well-being. Additionally, gardening is very healing to the mind and emotions. It washes away anxiety and stress. In my experience, gardening calms my nerves, relieves stress and provides peace of mind. When the world around you gets chaotic and a bit too much, a garden can give you the peace and solitude that you seek.

A garden is a place where dreams are born and imagination grows. So if you haven’t started a garden yet, now is the perfect time to do so! HAPPY GARDENING!
