Nissan’s innovation, the Nissan NV200 currently holds the title the “Taxi of Tomorrow.” This title was given by The New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC). The NV200 earned the title as it is projected to change the way New York City’s people will commute in the world of tomorrow. This contract involving Nissan is predicted to create revenue of $1 billion for the company within ten years. Nissan plans to launch its 2014 model and replace the recent 16 models by 2018.

Consumers these days are more concerned with the environment, and this shows even in their means of transportation. They look for vehicles that will replace standard gas cars, buses and even taxis. This is something that Nissan’s contract will try to address. The company and the city will work together to do study electric and zero emissions vehicles. Their goal is to produce as many as six electric cars ready for testing this year.

This new taxi will basically be like the traditional New York City yellow taxicab, except that it has the signature Nissan rims. Its cabin is designed with a higher roof and more legroom, making it more comfortable and spacious for passengers.

Leaving Napa on a sunny and warm Sunday morning meant it was time to put the top down, the shades up and the music low. It was October, mid-harvest, and we had just spent several days drinking good wine with good friends. But when the light came through the windows that morning, we were ready for something different. The stars, properly aligned, provided the setting for the most memorable road trip of our adult lives.

The California Coast

Being east coast dwellers and first time visitors to Napa and the surrounding area, we decided to ask the front desk for recommendations. Upon hearing that we were driving a Mustang convertible and wanting to catch some of the countryside, the front desk clerk smiled and handed us a map to Bodega Bay and Muir Woods. You won’t regret it, she said. And the weather is perfect for it.

Coffee cups and muffins in hand, we put the top down on our incredible ride, programmed the GPS and settled in. Hitting the highway, we headed almost due west straight through to the Sonoma Coast. Who knew California was home to so many sheep farms? We marveled as the terrain subtly changed to steep, dry hillsides. Beyond the peaks, a sense of void lay beyond, the ocean teasing us with promises of around the next bend, through the next hillside.

Mustang Convertible + California Sunshine = Happiness

The Mustang drove beautifully, accelerating with relish, nimbly handling the windy road with ease. We talked about how fun it would be to own one back east, conveniently forgetting about the six months of bad weather we endure every year. After lunch overlooking the Pacific, we drove south on route one toward San Francisco. Before long the trees became canopies the covered the road with a majesty and dignity unknown in the east. The road made it impossible to drive more than 15 or 20 miles per hour, as it rose and twisted toward the summit of an unnamed hill.

Before us lay the Pacific and an orange sky; it’s centerpiece, the sun. No guard rails, and my hands are sweating on the wheel. I am anxious to watch the sky but can only catch glimpses here and there. But my husband is relaxed, feet up, not thinking about work or even buying CJ  Pony Parts Ford Mustang parts and accessories for our fantasy purchase. We get gas and cross the Golden Gate Bridge into San Francisco. The health and age of the dependants will make the multiplier vary. The multiplier will only cover a period of dependence of the children that is only presumed. Most of the time, the multiplier will end up with the children who are 18 years old. The use of a member of the Clinical Negligence Panels or the Law Society’s Personal Injury will help you make sure that you will receive the right compensation. He/she must demonstrate great expertise and experience in this field. It is important to call an ambulance service if you have suffered a car accident.

Like most teenagers, I couldn’t wait to get my license. And once I got my license, the daydreams began.

I would get a convertible, a Mustang. I would drive down the streets in my hometown, aviators on and top down. Passersby young and old would stare with envy. And maybe – just maybe – I would stop to give a lucky pedestrian a ride. Assuming, of course, that the pedestrian was first, good looking, and second, good looking.

Reality was a bit more bracing. I did drive a Ford, but not the much-longed-for Mustang. Instead, a powder blue, four-door Fairmont with a racing strip and only one hubcap was my destiny. It also had spark knock (I couldn’t afford premium at a princely $1.29 per gallon) and a dent in the front passenger door that prevented proper use. Its only option? FM radio.

Despite its complete lack of swagger, it got me from point A to point B and I didn’t have to buy it off my parents, all major plusses. Then, college. I’m not sure the Fairmont could make it up there, my mom said, looking skeptical.

You won’t need a car anyway, she added.

The Fairmont stayed home, my Mustang dreams along with it.

My Kingdom for a Horse

For four years of school, I forgot about owning a car until graduation. I got a job right away – in those days, jobs popped up as easily as apples in October – and realized that point B was no longer within walking distance. That was all it took for me to sign myself up right then and there. I was not going to let the fact that I had neither a down payment nor any collateral stop me from owning that car. And never mind that several semesters of charging my way to a packed clothes closet got me in just enough credit trouble to make getting a loan difficult. Plus, I hadn’t started my job yet.

Oddly enough, it turns out that no down payment, middling credit and no proof of employment makes buying a car extremely difficult. Roadside assistance is particularly useful for long distance travels within and outside Denmark. The latest word on the UK fuel fiasco is that the union Unite has been given an extension on their deadline for declaring strikes by British fuel tanker drivers so that peace talks can continue. This will lift the immediate threat of industrial action which would seriously disrupt fuel supplies throughout the UK.

All throughout the week, the union and the officials from six major fuel distribution companies have been debating a number of issues including health and safety. The debates also involve pay and pensions and the issues are very complicated due to the number of different companies involved in the dispute and the number of delivery services sub-contracted out.

After talks on Wednesday, tanker drivers rejected a new offer from the six haulage firms and called for further talks.

Union Has Huge Potential for Impact on the Country

If the Unite union did decide to go on strike, it is estimated that their actions would impact 90 percent of the UK and lead to stocks of fuel beginning to run dry within 48 hours.

The possibility of industrial action has been brewed for over a year, but last month when Unite workers in fire firms voted on taking strike action uproar was caused all over Britain. Thousands of motorists flocked to the pumps and queued up to buy extra fuel after the Government advised them to top up their tanks due to the strike threat. Petrol stations across the UK were in chaos with queues stretching down the streets and the fuel retailers said that the government warnings were irresponsible and inept.

Fuel retailers said that the enormous queues at the petrol stations were clogging up traffic and fire brigade officials have said that encouraging people to store petrol in their home is very dangerous.

Petrol Prices Rising

Petrol prices have also climbed to a record high this week and have stayed above the 140p per litre mark for two weeks in a row. This is the highest that petrol prices have soared in the last 10 years.

A planned 3p increase in fuel duty in August will raise petrol prices in the UK even further. Motorists in rural areas are struggling to afford to fill their tanks to where they need to go. Drivers have started to change their habits and rely on walking, biking, public transportation and other methods of getting around rather than driving. This not only reduces their fuel costs but also saves them money on car insurance because cars that are driven less are at lower risk.

Could Fracking Be The Answer to Fuel Woes?

A possible method of extracting fuel in the UK could be the answer to the country’s energy problems, but has many worried about its environmental impact. Shale Gas Fracking is a process where pressurized water and chemicals are pumped underground to release trapped gas under the earth’s surface.

A fracking operation near Blackpool is the suspected cause of the small earthquakes which shook Lancashire in May 2011. The site near Blackpool apparently has enough gas to cover the UK demand for multiple generations. Activists are concerned that this process could pollute ground water and cause gas to leak into the atmosphere.

Further Talks Scheduled

What will happen in the near future to the petrol supply in the UK is up in the air at the moment, as Unite have yet to announce whether or not they will go forward with the strike. They will need to give seven days notice in the future if they do take industrial action, giving UK residents only one short week to plan ahead.

As if motorists didn’t have enough to worry about from car insurance to flat tires, recently an oil tanker driver strike has been threatening the fuel supply in the UK. The deadline for the strike has been extended and peace talks are currently continuing.

Keep it clean
Keeping your car clean is a must if you want the paintwork to last. Dirt and grime will over time get into the paintwork and begin to deteriorate it. We appreciate that most people don’t have the time or want to spend a day detailing their car so at the very least try and keep the dirt off it by washing it regularly.

For those of us who do take a bit more pride, be careful of what you use to wash your car. If you want to keep the paint in top notch condition use a proper car shampoo and a jet wash if possible. Make sure that between getting the car wet, shampooing it and rinsing it that you do not use the same dirty water as you will just put the dirt straight back on.

Make sure you also dry your car properly. If you don’t the tiny mineral deposits left by the water spots will again, over time, help to degrade your paintwork. Make sure when drying you use a lint free cloth to avoid scratching the paintwork.

Protect it
If you really want your car to make it through all seasons then make sure you wax it, or better still put a paint sealant on it. This will stop the dirt sticking to it and actually make your car easier to wash. You don’t need to wax it every time you wash it, but 3 or 4 times a year should be enough to keep it in relatively good condition.

Stone chips
Lastly are the dreaded stone chips. They are an unfortunate fact of life and almost impossible to avoid. If you do get stone chips then keep an eye on them to make sure they don’t turn into rust, if they do get them professionally filled, often known as ‘SMART’ repairs. If you really don’t want any stone chips you can apply invisible vinyl wraps to your car, but these come at a hefty price and can affect the textured look and feel of your car.

The saying goes that age is just a number, and these days when life expectancy is increasing this has never been truer. People are living longer and so are staying active for longer, meaning we are seeing a lot more of older drivers on the roads than before. Older and wiser

A longer life means a lot more experience, so unless you’re a senior driver who has just passed their test, the chances are that you will have a lot more driving experience that most other road users. Younger drivers in the 17-24 age group usually have the highest premiums due to two main contributing factors; inexperience and lifestyle. If you’re lucky enough to have a clean claims history, you’ve stacked up a lot of years’ worth of No Claims Bonus/No Claims Discount (NCB/NCD). Most insurers put a cap of about five years on how much NCB you earn, which can give you the advantage of having a discount of up to 75 per cent on your car insurance premium. Experience pays off, and it’s something you have by the bucket-load.

Laid back lifestyle

There are many lifestyle factors that go into working out how much car insurance premium you pay each year, and as you get older you’ll be lucky enough to be able to dodge some of these factors. Let’s say that you’re in the over 60s age group. If you have children, it’s likely that they are grown up and have left the nest by now. This puts you in a better position when looking for car insurance as having children under 16 could increase your premium. This is due to the potential risk of a much more expensive claim if you had an accident with a child on board.

Also, you might be nearing retirement (although there is now no compulsory retirement age, you might still feel that it’s time to kick back and relax for a bit). This means that you will no longer be using your car for work purposes, so you can downgrade your cover from business class or community to social, domestic and pleasure (SD&P). Not using the car during rush hour and driving in line with a more laid back lifestyle marks you as a safer risk and so your premiums could decrease as a result.

Increased choice

Until very recently, drivers over the age of 80 could only choose from about 25 per cent of available car insurance policies. A few insurers have recently taken away their upper age limits, and if an insurer can’t offer you a car insurance policy due to your age, they will now point you towards the British Insurance Brokers’ Association (BIBA), which has a service dedicated to pointing older drivers in the right direction.

Older drivers have just as much a right to be on the roads as the rest of us, and being advanced in years certainly gives you some advantages that could save you some extra cash.
