Separate aviation myths from reality. Understand what causes flight turbulence and why it's a normal part of air travel for a more confident journey.

Most people who fly have experienced turbulence. For some, it produces mild anxiety, while for others, it causes genuine fear. The sensation of the plane shaking can make even seasoned travelers uneasy. However, understanding the science behind this common occurrence can help demystify the experience.

Pilots train extensively to manage these conditions, and airplanes themselves possess remarkable structural integrity. Exploring the impact of turbulence helps debunk common myths and clarify facts, giving passengers a clearer perspective on bumpy flights.

What Causes Turbulence?

Several factors contribute to turbulent air. Each has a distinct origin, but all result in the same bumpy ride for passengers. Understanding these sources can help explain why turbulence occurs on some flights and not others.

Types of Turbulence

Thermal Turbulence: This happens when the sun heats the Earth’s surface unevenly. The warm air rises and mixes with the cooler air above, creating vertical currents that aircraft fly through.

Mechanical Turbulence: Obstructions like mountains, tall buildings, or irregular terrain disrupt smooth airflow. As air moves over these objects, it creates eddies and waves, much like water flowing over rocks in a stream.

Clear-Air Turbulence (CAT): Often occurring at high altitudes where the sky appears clear, CAT forms at the boundary between air masses moving at different speeds. This friction between air layers creates instability.

Debunking Common Flight Myths

Misinformation about aviation safety often spreads, leading to unnecessary worry. Addressing these flight myths with facts provides a more accurate picture of air travel.

Turbulence Is Dangerous

This remains one of the most persistent myths. While uncomfortable, turbulence poses little threat to an airplane’s structural integrity. Aircraft undergo rigorous testing and possess the flexibility to withstand forces far greater than those encountered during typical flights. Pilots also slow the plane to a specific speed to move smoothly through rough air.

Pilots Are Surprised by It

Advanced weather-forecasting technology enables pilots and air traffic controllers to predict and avoid most areas of significant turbulence. The role of weather in flight training is a fundamental part of a pilot’s education, preparing them to anticipate and navigate these conditions safely. However, Clear-Air Turbulence can sometimes appear without warning, though pilots remain prepared to handle it.

The Reality of Aviation Safety

Flying remains one of the safest modes of travel. The aviation industry upholds strict, continuously improving safety protocols. Pilots receive extensive training, and modern aircraft feature redundant systems for almost any scenario. While turbulence can feel alarming, understanding its impact and dispelling myths confirms the aircraft remains under control.

A Smoother Perspective on Flying

Understanding the causes of turbulence and the safety measures in place can help passengers feel more at ease during a bumpy flight. The shaking and jostling are standard parts of flying, not indicators of a problem. The aircraft performs precisely as it should, and the flight crew has the expertise to navigate the skies safely. The next time your flight encounters rough air, you can feel more confident knowing the facts.

Ah, summer—the perfect time to turn the open road into your front yard and the stars into your nightlight. Whether you’re a seasoned RVer or a newbie just itching to escape, preparation is key for an unforgettable adventure. Before you hit the gas pedal, dive into this guide to prepare for your next summer RV trip and ensure your ride is as smooth as the views are stunning!

Gear Up With the Essentials

Packing for an RV trip is a game of balance—you want to be travel-light but remain prepared for anything the road throws at you. Stock your RV with must-haves like a first-aid kit, camping chairs, and tools for minor repairs. Don’t forget sunscreen, bug spray, and a power bank for those photo-ops. If you feel like you’re bringing too much, leave the “just-in-case” items behind; you’re not moving into your RV, just vacationing! For more on this, we suggest this post: Essential Things To Remember When Taking a Long Trip

Plan Your Route, but Stay Flexible

Plotting your route ensures you hit all the spots on your wanderlust wishlist. Think national parks, roadside diners, or quirky landmarks that pop up along the way. A detailed plan reduces stress, but leaving room for spontaneous detours makes for better stories. After all, who wouldn’t want to stumble across a UFO-themed gift shop or a breathtaking, unplanned sunset spot?

Keep Your RV Road-Trip-Ready

Your RV is the heart and soul of your adventure, so treat it right. Before anything, check the tires, oil, and brakes. Also, use this time to maintain your RV air condition so that you don’t find yourself sweating through the scenic drive. Be sure to top up the water and propane tanks. A well-maintained RV means more time exploring and less time waiting on roadside repairs.

Maximize Comfort for Those Hot Summer Days

Summer road trips can be magical but also sizzling. Stock up on plenty of water to stay hydrated, and keep curtains or shades on standby to block out the heat. A portable fan might just become your best friend, especially on those toasty days in the desert. Comfort is essential because you won’t enjoy the view if you’re melting into your driver’s seat.

Don’t Forget the Little Luxuries

Even the most adventurous spirits crave a touch of comfort. Pack cozy throw blankets for cooler nights and a coffee maker (if caffeine is non-negotiable). Bringing a portable grill could turn every pit stop into a feast. And don’t forget your favorite music playlist—singing along while cruising down an endless highway might just be your trip’s highlight.

The Final Mile

Now that you’re ready to roam, your summer escapade is just around the corner. Whether you’re soaking up breathtaking views or grilling under the stars, every mile is one for the books. Go ahead, gather your gear, and prepare for your next summer RV trip! The open road is calling—answer it in style.

Finding the perfect spot for your next trip takes time and careful consideration. If you love outdoor activities and exploring beautiful landscapes, Idaho could be the ideal option. This beautiful state offers stunning views and a plethora of exciting outdoor activities. Whether you’re planning a solo trip, a romantic getaway, or a family vacation, Idaho has something for everyone. Delve into the top reasons why you should plan your next vacation in Idaho.

There Are Hiking Trails for All Skill Levels

Hiking is a fun way to immerse yourself in nature as you walk through beautiful landscapes and breathe fresh air. As you search for hiking trails, select a route that aligns with your skill level, as some may be a bit challenging for beginners.

Some of the best trails in Idaho include:

Goat Lake: A challenging 10- to 12-mile hike that takes you through stunning mountain views and a peaceful alpine lake.

Sawtooth Lake: A moderate 5-mile hike that rewards you with breathtaking views of the Sawtooth Mountains and serene lake

Rainbow Lakes: An easy 3-mile hike that takes you past three lakes with crystal clear waters and beautiful wildflowers.

Consider what you want to see to narrow your options for the perfect hiking trail. For example, Shoshone Falls could be a good choice if you want to take pictures of waterfalls.

You Can Go Snowmobiling and ATV Riding

Idaho can feel like an outdoor playground for anyone who loves combining thrill with embracing nature. During the winter, the state is a prime spot for snowmobiling, offering countless miles of pristine trails that take you through snowy forests and valleys. Consider checking out some of the best snowmobiling trails in Idaho Falls to ensure you ride through the most beautiful areas.

If you go to Idaho in the warmer months, you can ride ATVs for an exhilarating day of exploring mountains, rivers, and canyons. While some ATVs are single-seaters, others allow more than one person to ride at a time.

To ensure everyone’s safety, riding these vehicles or snowmobiles requires a valid driver’s license.

You Can Enjoy White Water Rafting

Looking for a way to take your adventure to the water? White water rafting is another popular activity in Idaho, especially on the Salmon River—also known as the “River of No Return.” Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced rafter, there are plenty of options for every level.

White water rafting is an empowering experience that physically challenges your body. You and your group will navigate through foaming rapids and paddle past scenic canyons as you take on the exhilarating adventure. It’s an adrenaline rush that allows you to witness some of Idaho’s most beautiful landscapes from a unique perspective.

You Can Plan a Camping Adventure

The final reason to plan your next vacation in Idaho is to sleep under the stars. Camping allows you to fully immerse yourself in nature and disconnect from everyday life. Plus, you can combine this with other activities, such as hiking or whitewater rafting, for a truly unforgettable experience.

Whether you prefer camping in the mountains, near a lake, or in the desert, Idaho offers a variety of options for all types of campers. Regardless of what you decide to do, spending a night outdoors is essential to experiencing Idaho’s natural beauty.

Planning a trip for an extended period can feel both exciting and daunting. Forgetting important items or making last-minute arrangements can quickly turn your adventure into a logistical nightmare. To ensure you don’t miss anything important, we’ll explore the most essential things to remember when taking a long trip. Read on to make your journeys seamless, enjoyable, and well-organized.

1. Plan Ahead and Stay Organized

Long trips require far more planning than quick getaways. Preparing in advance can help you avoid unnecessary stress, unexpected hurdles, or financial surprises.

Securing your accommodations and transportation ahead of time often provides you with better deals and more choices. You should also jot down major travel dates, activities, and contact information for bookings or tours. This will make it easier to estimate how much your trip will cost before departing.

2. Pack Strategically

While packing might seem like a straightforward task, doing it wrong can hinder your experience significantly. Overpacking, underpacking, or forgetting essentials are all rookie mistakes to avoid.

Roll your clothes instead of folding them to maximize space and minimize wrinkles. Packing cubes are another brilliant addition for improved organization. For flights or long commutes, throw in sleep masks, earplugs, and snacks to keep fatigue and hunger at bay.

3. Power Your Gadgets Efficiently

Traveling with multiple gadgets requires careful planning to keep them powered throughout your journey. It’s important to have a reliable power supply, but there are some things to know about traveling with lithium-ion batteries for your safety and peace of mind.

Pack a universal adapter if you’re traveling internationally, as plug types vary between countries. You might also consider investing in a high-capacity power bank to charge devices on the go, especially during long flights or layovers.

4. Consider Your Health and Safety

Your health and safety should be a priority, whether you’re traveling domestically or abroad. Minor injuries or unexpected illnesses can happen at any time. Carry essentials like adhesive bandages, pain relievers, antihistamines, and cold medicine, just in case.

Travel insurance might seem like an unnecessary cost, but it can save you thousands in medical bills or trip cancellations. If you’re traveling internationally, research whether vaccinations are needed for the destination. Additionally, note down emergency contact numbers or local hospitals at your destination.

5. Make the Most of Your Destination

A long trip is a precious opportunity to immerse yourself in new environments. Before you set off, invest time in understanding the culture of your destination. Knowing a few common phrases in the local language or respecting cultural customs can leave a positive impression.

Push boundaries beyond tourist attractions. Participate in local events, eat regional delicacies, and mingle with locals. While it’s tempting to fit everything into your itinerary, doing so can lead to burnout if you aren’t careful. Allow time to relax, explore unplanned spots, or simply watch the world go by at a local café.

Take Your Travel Adventure to the Next Level

A well-prepared traveler is a happy traveler. No matter where you’re going, there are key items that you’ll need to bring with you for maximum enjoyment. With these essential things to remember when taking a long trip, you’ll create long-lasting memories without all the hassle.

In the hustle and bustle of daily life, the importance of quality time with family cannot be overstated. Family-friendly travel offers a perfect opportunity to escape the routine, strengthen bonds, and create enduring memories together. From theme parks to nature retreats, family-friendly destinations cater to a variety of interests, ensuring that every member, young and old, can find joy in the journey.

The Value of Family Time Away

Family vacations provide a precious opportunity to disconnect from the stresses of work and school, fostering a sense of togetherness and shared experiences. These moments away from the familiar surroundings create a canvas for laughter, exploration, and the building of traditions that last a lifetime.

Choosing the Right Destination

The key to a successful family-friendly trip lies in selecting a destination that caters to the interests and needs of everyone in the family. Considerations such as the age of the children, preferred activities, and the overall travel experience play a crucial role in choosing the perfect destination. Theme parks, beach resorts, and national parks are popular choices, each offering a unique set of experiences.

Theme Parks: Where Magic Happens for All Ages

For families with children, the enchanting world of theme parks is a natural magnet. Whether it’s the magical kingdoms of Disney, the thrilling rides at Universal Studios, or the educational wonders of Epcot, theme parks offer a blend of entertainment that transcends age barriers. The joy on a child’s face as they meet their favorite characters or conquer a roller coaster creates memories that linger long after the trip ends.

Beach Resorts: Sun, Sand, and Shared Delight

Beach destinations provide a serene backdrop for family bonding. Building sandcastles, splashing in the waves, and enjoying seaside activities create a relaxed environment for both parents and children. Resorts often offer kid-friendly amenities and programs, allowing parents some well-deserved downtime while the little ones engage in supervised activities.

National Parks: Nature’s Classroom for All Ages

For families seeking an immersive and educational experience, national parks are a treasure trove. Hiking trails, wildlife sightings, and the sheer majesty of nature offer opportunities for exploration and discovery. National parks instill a sense of appreciation for the environment and provide a backdrop for family discussions on conservation and the beauty of the natural world.

Tips for Family-Friendly Travel

Plan Ahead: Anticipate the needs of each family member and plan activities that cater to different interests and energy levels.

Pack Wisely: Ensure you have essentials for each family member, from snacks and entertainment for the kids to necessary medications and comfort items.

Flexibility is Key: While having a plan is essential, be open to spontaneity and unexpected detours. Some of the best memories are often made in the unplanned moments.

Capture the Moments: Bring along a camera or use your smartphone to capture candid moments and create a visual diary of your family adventure.

Encourage Participation: Involve everyone in the decision-making process, allowing each family member to contribute ideas and preferences for the trip.

Family-friendly travel is not just about reaching a destination; it’s about the journey and the shared moments that create a tapestry of memories. Whether exploring the magic of theme parks, relaxing on sandy shores, or immersing yourselves in the wonders of nature, family travel provides a canvas for creating lasting connections and cherished experiences. These moments spent together become the threads that weave a family’s unique story.

Are you in the market for a new SUV but can’t decide between brands? In truth, there are so many vehicles available today, each providing its own advantages and downsides. Luckily, two automobiles stand out among the rest—the Jeep Wrangler and Subaru Forester. Which is better? Read on to learn more.

The Jeep Wrangler

The Wrangler is one of the most significant vehicles in American pop culture history. From its WWII fighting origin to making many movie and TV appearances, this Jeep is the ideal off-roader.

The removable doors and roof allow for an experience unlike any other, and the durable build means you can enjoy your Wrangler for years to come. Plus, Jeep releases an improved model each year that’s capable of putting out more power and better performance rates. Ultimately, it’s a fun vehicle that has features unmatched by its competition.

The Subaru Forester

Subaru wasn’t always a popular car brand, especially in the United States. However, the excellence of the Forester has given this manufacturer a positive, reliable reputation. The Forester is perhaps the most comfortable and versatile adventure vehicle on the market. It’s highly affordable and designed for both families and thrill-seekers.

Subarus are known for gas efficiency, and the Forester clocks in at an impressive 25-26/28-35 miles per gallon. Additionally, the car itself possesses extremely convenient and high-tech amenities designed to keep you safe and boost the overall driving experience.

Which is Better?

So, which is the best choice for you? Ultimately, the answer lies in your personal needs. Do you require a daily driver primarily for commuting but occasional off-roading? Then the Forester might be the better option. Its cost ranges from $25,395 to $35,495—compared to $33,595-$77,095 for the Wrangler—and you’re getting significantly more amenities and comfort factors.

However, the Jeep Wrangler is still a suitable vehicle for traditional road driving. The appeal of this vehicle over the Forester means sacrificing some comfort and practicality for the ultimate off-roading automobile, but if you want a ride that provides thrills, the Wrangler is a must.

A better understanding of the debate between the Jeep Wrangler vs. Subaru Forester and which is better can help you prepare for future purchases. Many American prefer larger SUVs, and both of these vehicles offer something unique for prospective buyers. Regardless of which one you select, each brand is sure to provide you with a car that is affordable and reliable.

Uh oh, so what happens when you are brave enough to travel by yourself and go to eat at a bar? Surely you aren’t expecting anything too crazy but once in a while you may get lucky and find that you are being taped and are on a show. In this circumstance however, Okinawa Travel has flipped the script and had a few talented actors approached people out in the street or a bar and ask them random questions to hear how they respond. The people don’t initially realize that they are on camera so you get some funny responses that range from very short unemotional responses to very heart-felt attempts to help a stranger.

The series is run by the Meet The Locals campaign of Travel Okinawa, they have made numerous funny videos in the series and you can watch two of their clips in the video section below. Let us know your thoughts on these videos after you watch them both and enjoy them with a few laughs. So far there are two videos one called meet the locals in the bar and another called meet the locals in the street. They all give a good shot at helping people or getting people to the answer they need fast.

Personally I enjoyed both of them but thought the meet the locals at the bar was quite funny and gave me the most laughs. Enjoy them yourself and let us know what you think in the comments below the article.

If you live in a snow-belt state, or grew up in one, then you are fully aware of the difficulties you may face when driving in the white stuff. Regardless of where you live, if you happen to be flying when there is a snowstorm, you may be facing unexpected delays that could interrupt your meticulously planned vacation. Here are some ideas on how to be prepared when the weather throws you a snow-covered curveball.

Winter Driving Safety Tips

If you can help it, try not to drive on snow-covered roads until after plows and salt trucks have gone by, and always allow extra time to get to your destination. Stroble Law Firm in Michigan sees its share of car accidents cases due to conditions like snow and ice. Drive slowly and more cautiously than usual, as snow can be a disguise for icy, slippery conditions underneath. Keep a larger distance between your car and the car in front of you in case you have to stop suddenly. When you do use your brakes, apply pressure gently to avoid skidding.

Before you do embark on a snowy journey, always clean off your car so you have as much visibility as possible. Don’t forget the roof of your car, either, as this will prevent snow from flying off of your car and hitting the car behind you, obscuring another driver’s visibility. It also helps to practice driving in snowy conditions in an empty parking lot so you know how your car is going to handle on the road.

Plan Ahead for Flights

If you hear of an impending snowstorm on the day you are scheduled to be on a flight, check with the airlines before you leave your house to confirm that your flight is still on schedule or has not been canceled. If you are in fact going to be flying, be sure to allow yourself plenty of extra time to get to the airport. You may even want to pack a carry-on bag with a change of clothes and some toiletries, in case your flight is delayed and you have to spend an extended amount of time in the airport. Being able to brush your teeth and wash your face while you wait could certainly make you feel more refreshed and less stressed about your delay.

Don’t forget to pack extra power cords for cell phones and laptops, so in the event of a lengthy delay, you will be able to communicate your change in plans to family and friends that might be waiting for your at your final destination.

Ultimately, with snowy weather, sometimes the best thing you can do is wait it out patiently. In our fast-paced world, maybe this is Mother Nature’s way of telling us it is simply time to slow down, if only for a day or two.

For a person that opens their wardrobe and begins packing for a holiday an hour before they are due to leave home, there is a large chance that they will over pack on some items and completely forget other important objects they would rather not do without. These problems can be eliminated by forming a master packing list to use and update regularly.

A packing list for people that holiday in the summer will be different for those that travel across the winter and if you’re the type that takes regular weekend breaks, you may need a separate packing list for each type of holiday.

Creating your packing list

Fortunately, many people have created holiday packing lists and make them available across the Internet and ready for download. These lists might not be perfect for you, but they may form a solid foundation for many of the items that you need to consider and then it will just be up to you to update the list to suit your personal circumstances.

It is better to create a master packing list and then decide which items you are not going to take with you, when you are restricted by suitcase size and weight if you are travelling by airline.

The provision of an up-to-date packing list will reduce your stress when you need to travel urgently, particularly if this is related to having to visit family or friends who are ill.

Your list can also be used as a repacking facility when your holiday comes to an end. If you’ve lost anything you will quickly know and your list will help prevent you from leaving anything behind. If your luggage is stolen or lost, your packing list will help you complete your travel insurance claim.

Go day by day

Where you consider each part of everyday while you are away, you can carefully assess which clothes and other items you will need at each single stage. You will quickly find out if some items can be used on numerous occasions by picking clothes that coordinate together you will be able to reduce your packing list to the smallest selection of requirements, but to include everything you need.

Once your lists are complete, you may need to consider local traditions and cultures which may affect how you are dressed for public events.

For all of your jewellery and gadgets, you will have to decide if you really need to take the items with you because when you are travelling to different areas, it is easy for your awareness to be reduced and you may attract thieves and burglars.

Travel kits provide an extremely good way of combining all of your toiletries into a waterproof container that won’t empty out onto your clothing, especially if you don’t fill bottles to the brim because aeroplane pressure can force the contents to explode.

Expert packers will photocopy maps and pages from guidebooks rather than taking complete books, but if all your books can be downloaded to a tablet computer, you could leave your laptop and books at home.

Once all of your packing lists are complete, they will greatly reduce the stress of having to reconsider what to take for every occasion, but it is better to update the list as your needs and necessities change over the years and never forget your Swiss Army knife, which for its small size, can perform a multitude of tasks. However, don’t try taking it on an airplane with you; it won’t be allowed.

Ian Pressman knows packing is essential to start a trip right. He writes for Sunglasses Online.

Next time you are considering to visit Aruba there are a few things you may want to realize… There is nothing to consider it should be a definite yes and today we are going to help you realize exactly why!

Where else can you go to experience so much Caribbean fun other than Aruba? Even just the name Aruba sounds fun and is sure to raise your blood. Whether you are going to hop in an offroad jeep and all-terrain vehicle while there to explore or dive into the beautiful waters we know you are going to love it.

Considerations of your Aruba travel plan should soon turn into full on plans as soon as you hear anything more about this wonderful place. For example you can easily get around Aruba from attraction to attration which can include carnival shows and outdoor night buffets, resort casinos, and more.

Whether it is your family, your better half, or even a business group you are sure to have a blast and yet again we have some more reasons. The downtown stores feature some worldclass shopping for you to enjoy and get caught up on all of the great styles you don’t have time to enjoy back at home. Perhaps even better is there is a great bus system and set rates on Taxi’s so you can predict your trip much easier and prepare your budget ahead of time.

Let us know your thoughts and favorite things about Aruba!
Traveling and vacationing can be a fun excursion at any time of the year. Unfortunately, the rise in tourist related accidents has caused some travelers to consider ways to be enjoy a safer experience.

Allowing yourself to become distracted while you are driving is always dangerous, but the problem becomes exacerbated when you are unfamiliar with your surroundings. After all, if you are unaware of the local traffic laws or have no idea when you are supposed to turn next, you will already have a higher risk of causing an accident. When you add a distraction such as texting or reading a map into the mix, the results can be deadly.

Although distracted drivers cause the majority of this type of traffic accident, it is also important to remain aware when you are a pedestrian. For example, while visiting Miami, if you spend all of your time looking at this vibrant city through a camera lens, you could easily trip or inadvertently walk into a crosswalk before traffic clears. In an unfortunate event such as this, it would be a good idea to consult a Miami car accident lawyer or personal injury attorney.

Tips for Avoiding an Accident on Vacation

1) Keep Your Cell Phone in Your Pocket – Whether you are driving or walking, it is best not to be talking or texting on the phone, especially when you are in a new area. By removing this distraction, you will be much more likely to notice sudden changes from other motorists and pedestrians before you end up in an accident with them.

2) Look at Maps Only When You are Stopped – Driving or walking around with your nose stuck in a map can be just as bad as using your cell phone. Therefore, you should pull over or stop walking in order to consult with a map.

3) Avoid Grooming in Your Vehicle – Many people put on makeup or brush their hair when they are driving, and this can easily lead to an accident. In one bizarre case, an Indiana resident crashed her vehicle as a result of shaving her bikini area while driving through Florida. Regardless of where you are headed, you should always take care of your personal grooming when you are not in a moving vehicle.

4) Stop to Take Pictures – As previously mentioned, walking while taking photos can be dangerous. Unfortunately, some people attempt to commemorate their trip by capturing images while they are driving. This type of reckless behavior can easily cause you to spend part of your vacation at the police station.

If you are involved in an accident while you are on vacation, you should contact a local lawyer to protect your legal rights. However, you can greatly minimize your risk of having a trip you would rather forget by putting all of your potential distractions away when you are driving and walking.

She contributes this article as a way to share the importance of adopting safe practices while traveling. Miami car accident lawyer firm, Steinger, Iscoe & Greene has spent many years litigating cases for victims who have been involved in tourist related accidents and injuries.

She enjoys blogging, TV, pop culture and tweeting @ericajmoss.

They say that it’s about the journey, not the destination, and that’s mostly true — except when it comes to travel headaches. Sometimes you just can’t wait to get to you destination and have a little less “journey” to deal with.

But travel doesn’t have to be a headache. There are a few simple tricks you can use to maximize your travel efficiency, thereby decreasing stress and making the journey a little more enjoyable. Here are a few tips:

Pack Efficiently

It can be easy to get into the habit of just jamming fistfuls of clothing into a duffel bag or backpack if you’re taking a short trip, but spending a few extra minutes to flatten, fold and tightly pack things can make your journey much more pleasant. If you’re flying, for example, and you have a big, lumpy bag, you can encounter boarding delays as you’re trying to jam it into a tiny overhead bin. You can avoid having the annoyance just by making sure your luggage is packed neatly and tightly. When you arrive, it’s easier to unpack as well. Bonus!

Preload Your Devices with Destination Information

This is especially important for foreign travelers: You’re not guaranteed an Internet connection or wi-fi when you get to your destination country, so make sure you have some basic informational things preloaded onto your smartphone or tablet. Popular mapping applications allow you to store some things locally, meaning you’ll be able to get a map even while you’re offline. Make sure you have basic information saved as easily-accessible text documents; the name (and pronunciation) of your hotel can go a long way. Just knowing how to say the name of your hotel in the local language could be the difference between a simple journey from the airport and an expensive nightmare.

ABC: Always Be Charging

Make sure to bring your chargers! You can also consolidate them with several aftermarket universal chargers that have different adapters to fit a variety of devices. Having an external battery pack can be a huge lifesaver as well, and they’re not too expensive.

Also: See that spare outlet in the airport terminal? Plug in for five minutes. Plug in to the hotel lobby. Don’t be afraid to plug in while you’re at a cafe or restaurant. Additionally, make sure you have a proper adapter for the local electrical outlets.

Footwear

Unless you’re planning on having a club night at your destination, it’s alright to leave the five-inch heels home. You’ll want to make sure you have footwear that is comfortable. Nobody wants to be hauling through an airport or boarding a train with luggage wearing uncomfortable shoes. Always assume you will be walking more than you might think, and don’t bring any shoes that even remotely have the chance of hurting your feet. You can’t predict what kind of situations or weather you might encounter, and shoes can make a big difference to your peace of mind.

Remember the TSA

If you’re flying, you do not want to be one of the hapless, clueless folks in line who have to keep being told by TSA agents what to do and what not to do. Make sure you understand the rules before you get onto the security line. Take your belt, shoes and jacket off. Make sure nothing is in your pockets, not even change or papers. Take your laptop out of the bag — and make sure it’s easy to remove and replace before you even get to the airport! With proper preparation, you can breeze through security even while other people are struggling with their bags or emptying their pockets. You’ll look like a pro.

—

Travel does not have to be stressful, and being prepared can go a long way towards making your trip a breeze so that you can enjoy the destination and the journey.

If you have ever planned a trip to Paris and were discouraged by ridiculous ticket prices, DealChecker.co.uk might sway you around. There are many websites that scour the web for cheap tickets. However, DealChecker is one of the most affordable sites to use. A single ticket from London’s Heathrow airport at this time of year costs only about £65. That’s quite the bargain considering you’ll be travelling to one of the most sought out travel destinations in the world. So to grab your cheap flight to Paris check here to find out more and we will see you walking down the Champs d’Elysee soon.

Stunning City

Paris is a beautiful city and one that requires a long vacation to fully appreciate. Travelling at this time of year is a great idea because of all the seasonal festivities and decorations that emphasize this beautiful city. To really see magnificent lighting, visit Paris’s top department store, Galeries Lafayette. Each season, this department store has a brilliant holiday facade with exquisite window displays.

Museums & Paintings

Paris is also home to plenty of museums. Musée d’Orsay houses one of the best sets of impressionist paintings, including those by Monet and Van Gogh. Musée de l’Orangerie is another art museum, and although it’s not as big as Musée d’Orsay, it was originally erected to hold Monet’s paintings. Musée de Louvre is another exceptional attraction, both for its architecture and its art collection. You may need to spend a few days, however, to peruse through their collection of 400,000 items, with Leonardo da Vinci’s portrait of the Mona Lisa as the most popular painting.

Avenue des Champs d’Elysee

From the Musée de Louvre take a walk along the Avenue des Champs d’Elysee, one of the most magnificent streets in Paris, to reach the Arc de Triomphe, a huge monument built to honor Napoleon’s army. From stores to restaurants to everything in between, you will want to spend a day exploring just this street. On the way to the Arc de Triomphe, you will also pass by the Place de La Concorde, a public square home to many beautiful architectural works. These will include: Fontaines de la Concorde, two intricately designed fountains; the Luxor Obelisk, a huge red granite column decorated with hieroglyphics; the Madeleine church, a temple originally built to glorify Napoleon’s army; and Hôtel de Crillon, one of Paris’s oldest luxury hotels. You will also notice the Grand Palais, a beautiful glass-roof building designed in 1900 for the World Fair.

These are just a few of the magnificent attractions that Paris has to offer. Paris has millions of things to do, including more museums, palaces, exceptional churches, and lots of five star restaurants. After all, Paris is one of the world’s biggest culinary hub. So manage your trip using DealChecker.co.uk and revel in everything Paris has to offer.

There are so many decisions to be made when you go through the process of moving from one home to another. Instead of just packing everything and moving into your new home, you have a great opportunity to clear out everything you don’t need. Creating the ultimate packing list will help you achieve this goal.

Your packing list might be determined by the size of property that you’re moving to. You might be upsizing or taking the opportunity to downsize and reduce your monthly and annual running expenses.

When you’re not moving directly to another property and have to store your household goods, either with friends and family or in a professional storage unit, you will probably want to reduce the amount of domestic items that you own, so you have less to store.

Begin with a walk around your home

Before you begin, arm yourself with the necessary weapons to complete your task. Traditionalists will choose a pad and pen for this operation, while modernists will switch between a tablet computer, laptop computer or perhaps their mobile phone. Those gadgets, along with a dictation machine, give you the opportunity to talk about the items you see as you walk around your home so that you can type the list and comments properly, when the first stage of your job is complete.

It isn’t an easy task to determine what is to stay and what is to go. If you are able to borrow a second pair of eyes to help you as you search your property, you increase the chance of success.

Taking one room at a time, you should list everything that you see. Where items remain hidden, you should open boxes, drawers and containers so that you can record or write down every available item.

Make additional notes as they come to your mind when you inspect your property. For example, you might suggest that an item needs replacing or you may see something you can list on eBay to make some money before you move. If you have lots of books, CDs and DVDs, you might be able to sell them. Let’s face it; you might already have upgraded to an e-reader, MP3 player and online films so you won’t need them again.

Taking great care in your children’s rooms

By nature, your children are hoarders. They want to hold on to everything they have owned or borrowed throughout their entire life and even when they’ve outgrown some of their toys and books, they will always suggest that they should hang onto them for just a little longer, just in case.

You will need to discuss the reason for creating your ultimate packing list with your children so that they can understand and reasonably assess the kinds of items that you can dispose of, perhaps by giving them to other children, before the move. Balance this with ensuring that your children feel safe and secure before, during and after the move, because they will be both upset and excited throughout the whole process.

The ultimate packing list may read like an Argos catalogue by the time you finish, but it will highlight everything you need to take with you and everything you need to give away before the big day.

Edinburgh has become known as one of the hot spots for those who love a good cocktail. In fact, this Scottish city has several locations that have shown up consistently on lists of the top cocktail bars in the U.K.

Diversity can best describe the drinking scene in Edinburgh with an eclectic mix of restaurants, bars and quaint eateries. There are pubs in historic areas of the city mixed in with progressive contemporary cocktail bars and more. You can meander through the streets for weeks and not reach even half of what this city has to offer in terms of tasty, inventive cocktails.

Consistently Top Cocktail Spots

Many reviewers through the U.K. have touted Bramble Bar as one of the best because of their innovative cocktail flavours. If you try their Que Pasa Raza, you will discover that for yourself! With a mix of soda water, tequila, orange juice, orgeat, honey and the special ingredient of curry powder, you will taste its uniqueness.

For a quirkier atmosphere, Under the Stairs is said to have mastered the shabby retro chic feel without even trying. Perhaps its location in a basement in Edinburgh’s OldTown has something to do with it. They do traditional cocktails quite well but if you want to try a little liquid adventure, ordering the Green Tea Cooler or Mary Under the Stairs, both with Zubrowka Bison Grass Vodka, ought to do it for you.

Cool, collected and trendy is Bar Missoni in a nutshell. If you want a place to see and be seen, this is reportedly it. The bartenders are mixology experts and they have over twenty cocktail options for your sipping pleasure. From classic Bellinis and martinis to more unique offerings like their Biennale which includes fig liqueur, Prosecco and Angostura Bitters, there is plenty to sample in this designer setting.

Follow Your Mood

Truly, while in Edinburgh, you will discover a variety of cocktail bars. All you have to do is follow your mood and you will find a location that suits you. If you are in the mood for a warm, welcoming place that offers a Latin vibe, then Barrio Central is the place to try. Old world glamour paired with a lively good time can be had at The Voodoo Rooms while a unique drinking experience is what you will find at Underdogs.

Edinburgh has the best of both Old and New World flavours when it comes to cocktail bars. If you are in the mood for a little adventure and want to try something new, this is a city of talented mixologists. Live a little and ask your bartender for suggestions. You just might find a new favourite cocktail.

When you talk about the beautiful scenery of Scotland, many often instantly think of the Scottish Highlands. Renowned for the numerous lochs and glens, all surrounded by wonderful little villages and plenty of wildlife roaming free, there is little doubt that the Scottish Highlands is one of the most beautiful places in the whole of the country.galloway

The problem is, because of its popularity, other parts of Scotland that are just as beautiful (if not more so) are often overlooked – and Dumfries and Galloway is a prime example.

Rare Wildlife

Located in the south of the country, Dumfries and Galloway is one of those parts of Scotland that people haven’t often heard of. Not home to any world-famous landmarks or cities, it’s not a destination that people usually come across when they’re looking to visit from abroad and it’s one that people very often miss when driving up from England.

However, it’s one that could very easily be classed as the Highlands of the south, due to the astounding beauty of the area.

Take the fact that Dumfries and Galloway is home to some of the rarest animals in Scotland, particularly in terms of amphibians. Including the Natterjack toad and Great Crested Newt, there are few places outside of the area where you can see these animals in their natural habitat.

Caring for the wildlife in the area, there are four RSPB Nature Reserves within the 2,481 square miles of Dumfries and Galloway, located in the Mull of Galloway, Galloway Forest Park, Dee Marshes and Mersehead. Each gives you the ability to see some wonderful wildlife in the best conditions possible. The reserves aren’t heavily promoted outside of the area, yet they’re a perfect example of what Dumfries and Galloway has to offer.

Historic Attractions

For those looking for more historic attractions, there are some fantastic places of interest that will really whet your appetite.

Home to a number of castles, one of the most notable is Drumlanrig Castle, largely because it was built out of pink sandstone, giving it the nickname of the ‘Pink Palace’. Constructed in the late 17th century, the castle is a shining example of the Renaissance style of the time and with 120 rooms, 17 turrets and four towers, alongside its wonderful gardens, it makes for one of the most beautiful castles in the entire country.

Another great sight to behold is Sweetheart Abbey, which was an active monastery from 1275 to 1624. Bestowed this name after its founder, Dervorguilla of Galloway, was buried with her husband’s embalmed heart upon her death, although much of it is in ruin, there is still plenty in place today that showcases some outstanding examples of architecture from the period, particularly with regard to the nave of the abbey and its bell tower.

What’s more, Dumfries and Galloway is packed full of quaint villages that really offer a true Scottish experience and there are also various lochs for you to enjoy (with Loch Ken being the most popular), as well as plenty of glens for you ramble through.

If you’re looking at a trip to Scotland, whether you’ve been before or not, it’s unlikely you’ve considered Dumfries and Galloway (you might not even have heard of it!). A complete and utter shame if you don’t at least give it a bit of time, it might not be as popular as some of its relatives, but it can undoubtedly offer just as fantastic of a Scottish experience as anywhere else in the country.

Classy adventures by the Marina district in SF at Fort Mason

Recently on a weekend excursion to SF my friend Amirreza and I stumbled upon a great park, Fort Mason park. The discovery happened by pure accident while trying to find parking in the Fisherman’s Wharf area. We drove too far trying to find parking and enjoying the sights and sounds and found this. Soon we had parked and headed towards the ocean which then pulled us towards the beautiful Golden Gate. Soon before we knew it we found Fort Mason and saw people coming and going.

Despite the military tone that you may have come to mind when thinking of a Fort, it ended up being quite friendly. There are many facilities there for you to explore and much more. You can actually rent the surrounding areas for your events and enjoy the sunlight and people firsthand. There is a lot of history here for you to explore. It was originally named the “Post at Point San Jose” and it was initially established by the Spanish in 1776 and later claimed by the US Army. This initially served as the military headquarters for the US Army on the West Coast.

From the skyline it looks like a very modern area and enjoyable as it is so close to the water. When you look up you can see beautiful clouds overlooking the city and the beautiful bridge right behind it sitting awaiting your next photography adventure. The park is a fun place where you can find hundreds or thousands of people enjoying the sun and hanging out with their group. On our journey we ended up meeting some great people and even hung out with an individual who went to the same school as me, Santa Clara University whom we later went into the Marina with.

Perhaps my favorite part about this park is its close vicinity to one of the most sophisticated and nice areas of SF, the Marina. Pretty people and happy faces walk along and visit the local bars, it seems very safe and upper class.

Anyways Global Gooders and fans of Weekly Living, we recommend this park! Check it out and let us know in the comments below what adventures you have!

You know a site is the real deal often times when it ends in .org and the site for Fort Mason does that. Have fun exploring on the official website at:

Beamish is an open air museum that tells the story of life in North East England during the Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian eras. You can learn about the industrial revolution and the agricultural lifestyle through original artefacts, buildings and costumed staff.

Things to Do

You can take an underground guided tour of the Mahogany drift where you see how coal was mined and how people worked including how men, ponies and all the equipment was transported. You can explore the traditional houses and shops, some of which are the original buildings but others have been rebuilt in the original style. Beamish has a selection of agricultural animals that would have been on a traditional farm including pigs, goats, horses, geese and chickens. There are old working vehicles that people would have used for farming and you can ride on vintage buses and trams. You can see early tractors, threshing machines, horse drawn carriages and even working replicas of early steam locomotives.

Facilities

There are plenty of places to eat at Beamish. There’s the Davy’s Coal Fired Fish and Chip shop where traditional dishes of fish and chips are fried in beef dripping. The Sun Inn pub serving traditional pub food, sandwiches, soft drinks, tea, coffee and alcoholic beverages. The Dainty Dinah tea rooms is a self service eatery where you can pick up hot and cold snacks. The Pitman’s Pantry is good for hot and cold food that can be eaten in the outdoor seating area and the Cart Shed also has a outdoor area. Those with a sweet tooth can pick up traditional confectionary and see sweets being made at the Jubilee Sweetshop.

Dogs are welcomed in certain areas of the park but must always be kept on a lead. Not all areas of the museum and parks are accessible to disabled visitors but every care has been taken to ensure that there is plenty of accessible parking, toilets and facilities available.

How to Get There

Beamish is approximately eight miles south west of Newcastle or twelve miles northwest of Durham city. By car, you can easily find Beamish by following signs from the A1M, junction 63. Buses run from Newcastle and Durham city centres and the lime service 8 runs from Sunderland Interchange via Washington.

Where to Stay

There are lots of hotels and bed and breakfasts in the local area. For convenience, it’s best to choose one that’s close to transport links or close to a city centre for restaurants and entertainment.

One of the closest family friendly hotels is the Holiday Inn in Washington which is situated just off the A1M junction 64, making it a short drive from Beamish.
