Worried About Chapped Lips? Here Are Some Homemade Remedies For You
The lips are one part of the body that is extremely fragile and needs to be correctly taken care of because the skin on them is super thin and very sensitive. That light, delicate skin layer is the only thing that keeps them protected from external irritations and harm. Chapped lips are the worst.
Either cold or dry air can cause dry or cracked lips, which cause them to flake and crack. Effects from the sun or using cosmetic products can also be a cause of this. Lips do not have oil glands, and hence they do not produce their oil. It is, therefore, essential to moisturize them.
While lip balms are one way that can be used to get rid of and soothe chapped lips, homemade remedies can also come in handy for the very much needed relief for dry lips. This article focuses on some of the best home recipes that can be used to soothe chapped lips.
Video Overview
1. Begin with exfoliation
When you have chapped and dry lips, the skin on top can start to flake and lift. The dead skin on top may be preventing lip balm from reaching the new skin underneath. Gladly, exfoliating can help in scraping off the dead skin on top. You do not have to worry about purchasing a scrub as you can make one using the following ingredients.
• A tablespoon of exfoliating ingredients like sugar.
• A tablespoon of an ointment like honey or coconut oil.
• A small bowl.
• Small cotton swab.
• A damp cloth to remove it from the lips.
When all ingredients are ready, mix your exfoliating ingredient and ointment in the small bowl. Dip the cotton swab in the mixture and apply it to the dry lips gently in a circular motion. That will help soothe the chapped lips. After some time, wipe it off with the damp cloth. After exfoliating your lips, use coconut oil or aloe vera to help relieve and sooth chapped lips.
2. Use lip balm
Use lip balms with ingredients like petroleum, lanolin, beeswax, and ceramides since they help soothe chapped lips.
3. Drink enough water
Chapped lips can be a result of not drinking enough water. When the body is dehydrated, it drains water from various parts of the body to keep its cells hydrated, including the lips. Seems like a no brainer, but getting enough water throughout the day is essential to your skin’s health as well as the rest of your body.
