Spring-Cleaning Tips To Help Prepare for the Big Move

Spring-Cleaning

Cleaning the entire home doesn’t mean piling everything into boxes and doing a massive cleaning an hour before your moving van arrives. If anything, you want to tackle every part, especially if you’re leaving in the early spring. So follow these spring-cleaning tips to help prepare for the big move.

Deep Clean

You should expect to clean at least two times in this stage. It seems strange, but after you tidy everything the first time, you should do one final walkthrough, sweep, and vacuum.

As you focus on deep cleaning the place, focus on areas that most won’t think about, like the walls and appliances you plan to leave behind. With a new family moving in soon, it’s vital to keep it germ-free and ensure there are no present issues.

As you make your way through the house, focus on scrubbing down these areas:

  • Cabinets
  • Doors
  • Windows
  • Lights and fans
  • Corners

Some areas to think about after your deep clean include:

  • Carpets
  • Appliances
  • Vents
  • Sink

After you’ve planned your deep clean, went in, and scrubbed everything down, it’s time to move to the next phase of your move-out.

Declutter

You have a lot of boxes full of items you may not necessarily need anymore, nor do they have an attached value. Therefore, it’s still a good idea to go through everything in your room and create different piles.

Start marking boxes as “sell” and “donate” as you divvy everything up. That way, you know which items you can profit from and which to give to charity.

It’s tempting to leave items behind, but decluttering is an important Spring-Cleaning thing to do and can help families imagine what their future looks like living under this roof.

Clean Ceiling to Floor

Cleaning from the ceiling to the floor is essential, especially when cleaning before moving out. For instance, dust before you vacuum. Dusting ceiling fan blades can help push dirt to the ground, so you don’t have to vacuum twice. When cleaning from top to bottom, you cut out a lot of unnecessary work.

Pay Attention to Detail

As you finish cleaning from top to bottom, it’s time to focus on the areas you don’t think about as often. When cleaning the kitchen, concentrate behind the appliances and inside the cabinets, as they likely have dust, grime, and other unpleasant sights hiding away.

Now that you have the spring-cleaning tips to help prepare for the big move, you have a way to prepare yourself for cleaning. Right before closing those boxes and packing them into the van, take one last look and prepare for the next part of your life.
