Perhaps the most filmed location on the planet, New York City, from Broadway to Central Park, provides the perfect backdrop for the most romantic to the most ambitious of movies. Here are just a few of the famous films that feature beautiful shots of the Big Apple.
Breakfast at Tiffany’s
There’s no passing Tiffany’s on 5th Avenue without pausing to have an Audrey Hepburn moment. The hair, the glasses, the little black dress, the croissant; the opening scene of Breakfast at Tiffany’s is synonymous with New York City glamour.
Muppets Take Manhattan
I personally will never be able to see the glacial rocks of Central Park without picturing an enraged Miss Piggy on roller skates flying over the top in hot pursuit of a would-be mugger. From down and out in a bus station to mega-stars of The Great White Way, the Muppets Take Manhattan is a New York classic for the young and the young at heart.
An Affair to Remember
The top of the Empire State Building will forever and always be the most romantic place in Manhattan for anyone who has seen this Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr. Sleepless in Seattle, a classic in its own right may have made this movie into a chick flick cliché but I still defy anyone to make it to the end of An Affair to Remember without shedding at least a few tears.
Cocktail
For anyone who has ever dreamed of making it big on Madison Avenue, Cocktail is your quintessential New York City film of ambition and success. From serving drinks to the mid-town yuppie crowd to escaping the New York City winters in sunny Jamaica, we follow Brian Flanagan through every curve-ball that Manhattan can throw at the young and ambitious.
Big
The giant piano at FAO Schwartz remains a huge tourist attraction even today thanks to Tom Hank’s character rollicking on it’s over sized keys.
