Coordinating Outfits

Throwing together an outfit can sometimes feel like a headache. However, the key to stress-free fashion is proper coordination. To learn more about our tips for color coordinating outfits, keep reading our blog below.

Tip One: Choose a Neutral Color

Whenever you’re outlining an outfit, identify the base neutral color of your clothing. This neutral color will serve as the main component of your outfit. For example, your pants and jacket will both include a neutral color. This shade will serve as the foundation for your clothing, so choose a base color that pairs nicely with the others in your outfit. For example, olive green pants are simple to style as your neutral color, but only choose this shade if you have clothing that mixes well with green. Once you’ve established your neutral color, you can move onto your primary color.

  • Black
  • White
  • Brown
  • Olive Green
  • Navy

Tip Two: Choose Your Primary Color

Now that you’ve found a base color, you can choose one primary color as your outfit’s brighter, bolder component. Many people want to combine two bold primary and complementary colors. However, we recommended against choosing multiple primary colors because the mixture of numerous bright colors can often make an outfit appear busy.

Instead, we recommend choosing one primary color to pair with your neutral shade. Neutral hues such as black or white clothing will have endless color combination options available. However, for colors such as navy blue or olive green, we recommend choosing a primary color a few shades lighter than these neutral shades.

Once you’ve established a primary color, you’ll apply this color to the second most prominent piece of clothing in your outfit. For example, shirts, shoes, or even scarfs are primary color clothing options.

Tip Three: Tie Colors Together With Accessories

The last component of your outfit to coordinate is your accessories. If your style doesn’t feel cohesive yet, accessories are the perfect addition to tie your wardrobe together. There are plenty of versatile fashion accessories to choose.

If you wear jewelry as an accessory, examine the tone of your clothing to choose between silver or gold jewelry. For example, you should wear gold jewelry with warm shades and silver with colder ones.

Accessories such as hats, shoes, or headbands should have similar colors to your outfit’s neutral or primary colors. When you coordinate your accessories to match your wardrobe’s neutral or primary colors, your outfit will look effortlessly blended.

Although composing an outfit can cause a headache, we hope these tips for color coordinating outfits help make this process simpler and stress-free. Remember to build your outfit from neutral colors and wear what makes you confident. Once you master these tips, you’ll create high-fashion outfits without any added effort.
